Posture Protect Program

Kids shoot up like weeds from the ages of five to twelve, which is why Foot Levelers, Inc. created their unique Posture Protect Program. When your child’s foot has grown by a shoe size or size and a half (for instance, from size 6 to 7 1/2), the Spinal Pelvic Stabilizer Orthotics that he or she was wearing are not longer going to fit properly. Your child needs to return to the doctor at that time for a recasting and a new pair of SPS Orthotics.

Their Posture Protect Program allows you to receive a discount on your child’s next pair of any style of Young Soles SPS Orthotics. And we can continue to offer this discount on every pair of Young Soles your child needs until he or she turns twelve. After that age, children are ready to graduate into adult orthotic styles.

Call us at 417-339-3978 or visit our website for more information on the Posture Protect Program.

Taking Care of Kids’ Health – A Guide For Parents (Part Three)

Q. What can be done to help the feet?

A. A child’s feet need support and balance. Custom-made, flexible SPS Orthotics slip into shoes to help support the feet and stabilize the body. Foot Levelers’ Extreme XS Young Soles help feet between the ages of five to twelve stay healthy and posturally stable. They include the patent-pending Extreme Gait Cycle System for shock absorption, support, and a propulsive “boost” with each step as well as IntelliTemp to maintain a temperature-controlled comfort zone, and Dryz to wick away perspiration. Ask your doctor for more information on Extreme XS Young Soles, and on Foot Levelers’ Posture Protect Program. This program allows you to receive a discount on your child’s next pair of Extreme XS Young Soles.

Q. What kind of exercises should my child be doing?

A. Many doctors recommend specific exercise systems for different areas of a child’s body, such as the Thera-Ciser Light, for the ankle, knee, hop, shoulder, elbow, and wrist. Depending on your child’s condition, he or she may also benefit from specific neck or low back exercises.

Taking Care of Kids’ Health – A Guide For Parents (Part Two)

Q. Why is a foot examination important?

A. Many of the body’s movements and conditions are interconnected. Because the feet are the foundation of the body, foot problems can lead to stress or pain in other areas. During the first 12-18 months of life, the structure of the foot is primarily soft cartilage – usually not strong enough to support the body. Around the time a baby begins learning to stand up, cartilage rapidly develops into bone. At about two years old, the bowed legs and “toed-in” feet of infancy straighten out as the child begins to walk. Then at about age three, a knock-kneed, toed-in stance may develop as a result of normal skeletal growth: this appearance usually straightens out by the age of six or seven.

Q. So a child’s feet and legs usually correct any postural problems they have by about age seven?

A. Unfortunately, not all conditions disappear. A survey of 52 five-year-old children showed that 92.3% had knocked knees, and 77.9% had hyperpronation. While noticeable knock-knees usually disappear by age seven, hyperpronation does not.

Flu Vaccine May Do More Harm Than Good

Doctors Warn Swine Flu Vaccine May Do More Harm Than Good

The above headline comes from an October 8, 2009 story on the “Fox8Live” news show and on their website. This news story along with many others warn of the potential dangers of the H1N1 vaccine in contrast to the seriousness of the disease itself.

In the above story, Dr. Akili Graham, a family practice expert says that he and his family will not be getting the vaccine. He warns, “People are going to take the vaccine based on fear and ignorance.” He warns that a more serious problem could develop, “When you start mixing the vaccine with the swine flu, when they co-join and change, they have the potential to cause major problems because of the combination of the two.”

A similar story on the same day in the Virginia Beach Conservative Examiner carried the headline, “Infectious disease doctor says swine flu vaccine too risky”. In this story infectious disease expert Dr. Kent Holtorf stated, “I have more concern about the vaccine than I do about the swine flu. It’s been rushed to market.” Dr. Holtorf, speaking about the fact that the controversial substance Thimerosal is being used as an adjuvant, added, “It’s been shown to cause autism in children with mitochondrial dysfunction.” When asked if he would give the shot to his kids, Dr. Holtorf answered: “I definitely would not.”

On September 11, 2009, an interview appeared on the Financial Times health blog website with Dr. Tom Jefferson, a medically trained epidemiologist and Cochrane reviewer who has a special research interest in the effectiveness of vaccinations. Dr. Jefferson started his comments by answering the question of how effective are seasonal vaccines? He responded, “Our reviews either show no effect or limited effect, and poor data.”

Another article on the website, Center for Medical Consumers, on September 24, 2009, Dr. Jefferson noted that the World Health Organization changed their definition of the word “pandemic” in May, 2009, just prior to classifying the “Swine Flu” as a pandemic. The earlier definition of pandemic was: “An influenza pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus appears against which the human population has no immunity, resulting in epidemics worldwide with enormous numbers of deaths and illness [emphasis in the original document].”  The NEW definition of pandemic was changed to: “A disease epidemic occurs when there are more cases of that disease than normal. A pandemic is a worldwide epidemic of a disease. An influenza pandemic may occur when a new influenza virus appears against which the human population has no immunity.”

In an October 9, 2009 story on USA Today’s website is a headline that says, “One-third of parents oppose H1N1 vaccines.” This story reports on a poll by the Associated Press showing that parents are concerned about the safety and effectiveness of the H1N1 vaccine. The AP poll found that 38% of parents said they were unlikely to give permission for their kids to be vaccinated at school. In that same AP poll, conducted Oct. 1-5, they found that  72% of those surveyed are worried about side effects.

Taking Care of Kids’ Health – A Guide For Parents (Part One)

Q. How can I tell if my child has a postural problem?

A. Your family chiropractor is qualified to evaluate your child’s postural health. A recent study indicated children need chiropractic care for low back pain nearly twice as much as their parents. A child should have periodic postural evaluations; every six months to one year is usually sufficient.

Q. What can a chiropractor do if my child has a postural problem?

A. We may recommend a postural evaluation, examination of the feet, testing of any painful areas, X-rays, (to rule out more serious conditions), adjustments or manipulation where needed, Spinal Pelvic Stabilizer Orthotics, and rehabilitative exercise.

Proof Positive for Kim Parten

Kim & Abbey Parten

Kim & Abbey Parten

More positive changes in my health from chiropractic care:

6) My digestion has improved

7) My hearing has improved

8) My flexibility has improved

9) I “pop” and “crack” (guess the proper term would be “self-adjust”) all the time now…we made Dr. Hill laugh when he found out my daughter and I were having contests to see who popped and cracked the most throughout the day..now we do it so often we can’t keep count!

10) Just ask me in a few weeks, as I’m sure there will be something new for me to reports!  I still exercise as often as I used to, but now I do it because I want to rather than because I have to.  If I need to sum this all up in a word or two, I would say chiropractic has been “life-changing!”

More Living Proof

Kim & Abbey Parten

Kim & Abbey Parten

In the last post, I discussed a few major improvements I have seen in my health since starting chiropractic care with Hill Family Chiropractic. Here are 5 of at least 10 more amazing results I am enjoying today:

1. Nerve in my left arm – damaged during a routine donation  at the blood bank – finally healed 100% after 18 months of annoying pain and/or discomfort.

2. The occasional carpel tunnel pain I would feel in my right hand – due to an inventory job I held for a couple of years – is completely gone.

3. My TMJ problems have cleared up (what a relief!).

4. Six breast lumps – which I’ve dealt with since I was 18 – have completely disappeared…they were all biopsied in 2000 and one was surgically removed as a preventative measure in 2002.  I just assumed I would have to live with them for the rest of my life and now there isn’t a trace of any of them, again after just a few months of chiropractic care.

5.  I no longer rely on lotion to keep my skin looking/feeling good … I laugh and tell people I’m like a freshly sealed deck because water beads up on my skin when I get out of the shower.

Stay tuned til tomorrow when I share five more of my proof positive chiropractic results.

Living Proof…Chiropractic Works!

Kim & Abbey Parten

Kim & Abbey Parten

Testimonial by Kim Parten of Republic, MO

Health Problems:

Originally I cam to Hill Family Chiropractic for three main reasons: (1) I was tired of periodic neck/upper back pain related to stress; (2) I had been in a car accident about six months earlier and dealt with lower back pain for about three weeks…I had heard lots of stories of pain resurfacing and I didn’t want this to happen to me; (3) I saw chiropractic care as a way to possibly improve my overall health. (Boy, was I in for a surprise on that one!)

Treatments tried before chiropractic:

I was getting massages at least once a month – more often during time of high stress – to try to control pain in my neck and back. I was exercising 6-7 days a week plus taking Yoga classes once to twice a week to help keep my stress levels in check. (sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t…)

Changes in my health since chiropractic care:

I stopped “feeling” my stress in my neck/upper back pretty quickly.

My next goal was to get rid of my allergies. I was thrilled when Dr. Hill told me how my allergies could be healed, and then shocked when it really happened in just a few months of adjustments! I had gone through 18 months of expensive immunology shots with only minor relief.  However, I remained dependent on several prescriptions and over the counter pills. I am so happy these things are no longer a part of my life.

More on how Dr. Hill and chiropractic care helped me tomorrow.
